He makes the words of the Bible understandable and relevant to our lives. Without the enlightening work of the Holy Spirit, the truth of God's message remain misty, and can even appear nonsensical or offensive.

Every Christian who has received the Holy Spirit is said to be 'baptised in the Spirit' and united to all other Christians in the body of Christ's Church. The entire Christian life is a life that is directed by the Spirit. The Christian has been set free from the control of sin and God no longer judges him/her for it, yet the disciple of Christ still faces a life long battle to develop a holy character. The Spirit helps a Christian in this battle and prepares us for the glory of Heaven.

All Christian growth happens because of the Spirit - the presence of the Holy Spirit in a person's life is God's invisible, yet permanent ownership upon that life. We belong to God and cannot be separated from His love. We are given the guarantee that God will keep us securely.
No-one who belongs to Christ is without the Spirit. He empowers and equips us for the whole of life. Because the Spirit is the Counsellor or Helper, we may look to Him for assistance in all forms of Christian service and spiritual warfare. In particular, the Spirit helps us to pray, because He understands our weaknesses. He prevents prayer from degenerating into mere mechanical drudgery or powerless routine.
Gifts of the Holy Spirit
"There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manisfestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another the working of prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills." (1 Corinthians, 12:4-12).

The Holy Spirit

He is more than a force; He is a person, with a character of His own and is fully worthy of worship as His works are the works of God.
He is the One who actively carries out God's will and who works in the lives of Christians, giving them a new life and teaching them about God, interceding and assuring Christians that they belong to Christ..
The Bible teaches that it is through the Holy Spirit that God knows us completely. It is the mind of the Spirit that shapes the life of the Christian.
He is the source of all knowledge, the Guide and Helper of the Church. He convicts people of their sins, leads and instructs Christ's followers, forbids certain courses of action. He can feel emotion -it is therefore possible to make the Spirit sad. He can also be insulted.
The Spirit's task is to focus the spotlight not on Himself, but on Christ. Christ now comes to every believer through the Spirit. In having the Holy Spirit, we have Christ. As it was the Holy Spirit who inspired the writing of God's Word, so it is He who shows us what the Bible means.
